Angels Sing.
Ode to a child aged 21 months {for Stephanie~Jade}

I gazed upon this rock of love, that firmly stood within this ring,
And cast upon myself deep thought, that I may hear the Angels sing.
For pensive was my mood this day, as neath the trees my thoughts revealed,
I looked within the dreams I’d known, and saw the way,
My life was healed.
Too many years of emptiness, had grown within my breast to lie,
I’d filled those years with idle times, no fruit from prayers,
Passed to mine eye.
This day, the light had changed it’s hue, and life itself had shifted phase.
The sun now filtered through the trees, and dancing spirits,
Caught my gaze.
This rock of love, was mine own heart, which stood so firm upon this earth,
Not hardened by the pains I’d known, but reaching now, with all its worth.
Towards the sun, mine eyes had turned, to pray that I might catch a sight,
This love so precious, none may see, lest they should also find,
This light.
Tis true! that I had blesséd been, and gifted by the Goddess herself,
For love I held, could now be shared, no more to rest,
Upon the shelf.
I’d suffered in this life I’d held, yet still my heart grew ever strong,
And so the child was gifted too, that she may learn,
To share my Song.
Today! I felt this rock was soft, yet firmly placed within this ring,
and in my deep and pensive mood, I know I heard,
The Angels sing.

Composed in March 1994, four days after visiting Castlerigg stone circle, as depicted in the poem ‘Keswick Carles’ the author heard from the adoption panel he was able to adopt a Gemini child of 21 months, against all odds, the adoption of Stephanie Jade came on the spring equinox 1994, The lines were composed within a forest grove where the author went to give thanks for the news.
