The Pool of Life
composed in Late Spring 1991

Today, I gazed into the still, clear waters of the pool of life.
The tranquility and peace reflected like a mirror upon its surface.
I could see deep within the pool, where movements, like a torrent,
Sometimes raged
Today, it was stilled, and reflected the calm I felt within myself.

I have sat by these waters, many times and seen many changes,
Occur beneath its surface.
How, sometimes, although appearing calm upon it surface,
Raging currents below, dragged weed and life through turmoil.
I have watched the surface break apart, as stormclouds,
Shed their tears.
Many times Ive gazed, attempting to understand the meaning,
Of its ways.

After the storm, the waters seem cloudy with silt and waste,
Torn up from below.
Life struggles to re-establish the calm I see today. And I know,
From my gazing, it will be that way again.
As the sun lights the sky, and the ripples subside, slowly,
The waters will clear again, and I will see the peace and tranquility,
Return within.
Today! The waters are stilled, and I, at one with the pool,
Am reflected in life.

Composed in late spring 1991, at the authors desk in a window by a pool after a storm.
